Christmas Services
Just a reminder that we will have a service at 5:30pm this Sunday 21st and then some of us will head over to Clifton Hill Baptist (100 Hodgkinson Street) for their Carols service at 7:30pm. We will then get together on Christmas day for an amazing lunch at midday, followed by a short church service at 1:30pm.
The importance of prayer
Mary-Anne’s theme will be the importance of prayer. She will invite reflection and conversation on our experience of prayer noting the centrality of prayer to the Christian tradition and also to other faith traditions including Islam and Hinduism.
Letting go of preconceived ideas
Peter’s theme will be ‘our need to let go of preconceived ideas that tend to categorise things, people and God’. In this context he will reference both sacred texts and the mysteries of life in revealing God.
Right relationships and Sand Talk
We will talk about ways of seeing the world and "right relationships" within an Australian Aboriginal perspective. Referencing Tyson Yunkaporta's book, Sand Talk, we will explore some mnemonic diagrams typically drawn in sand and derived from the Larrakia people of the Darwin region.
Stillness and silence
The Christian tradition of contemplation is experiencing a renewal across all denomination as more and more people long to experience the quiet yet transformational power of Emmanuel, God with us, more deeply in their lives. Central to this tradition are practices of stillness and silence, through various forms of meditation and prayer.
Have you been paying attention?
This Sunday we are pleased to advise that Jim will assume responsibility for facilitating our faith community gathering . He plans to utilise a brief TED Talk You Tube Clip to invite our reflection and conversation on the theme of ‘have you being paying attention’ ( not to be confused with the Channel 10 TV Program ! )
