Multicultural Night - 17th March 2024

As you are aware the West Melbourne Baptist Community Centre facilitates a variety of programs that very intentionally acknowledge ( and indeed privilege ) our rich multicultural and multi faith community including our intercultural and intergenerational Aunties and Uncles Group for people over 50 years of age, our Multi Cultural Writers Group and our monthly Community Meals.

On March 17 at 5..15pm we plan to celebrate our commitment to ethnic and cultural diversity with a concert featuring the Zahoos, a delightful and very talented family who are a part of our wider community. Please see attached flier for more detail. The concert will feature multilingual and multicultural music and songs from a variety of backgrounds. The instruments featured will include the oud ( Arabian ), the kamancheh ( Azerbaijani ) , the sanxian ( Chinese )the dudek ( Armenian ) the Doira Drum ( Uzbek ) the Drabuka Drum ( Turkish ) Bongo Drum ( African ) and the guitar( Latin American ).

We also plan to briefly interview a couple of participants from our Aunties and Uncles and Multicultural Writers’ Group programs in order to both privilege their personal stories and to highlight the richness of our community.

A light supper will be served at the conclusion of the concert.

Please also feel free to invite others who might be interested in multicultural music and song.

RSVP for catering purposes will be helpful. Use the button at the top of the page or email Mary-Anne Hess at: mary-anne.hess@wmbc.org.au
